Product Review: FitAID – The Performance and Recovery Drink

If you workout intensely or for long periods of time, FitAID is the drink for you. It was created very thoughtfully to provide the body the nutrients it needs for fitness performance and recovery. What is FitAID?

FitAID is not an energy drink – it is a “performance and recovery drink” that provides the perfect supplements for optimal performance and post-workout recovery. It is made to AID your workout, hence the name.

More in depth, FitAID was created with hardcore athletes in mind and their needs including cardiovascular endurance, speed, agility, stamina, energy, and strength; then matched ingredients to support these needs thus producing a unique formula that improves athletic performance and speeds recovery.

On top of that, the formula is paleo friendly, gluten free and 100% natural. It does not contain sucralose, aspartame, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, and no artificial colors, flavors of sweeteners.

What’s in FitAID and why does it work?

Now that we know what’s not in it, it really helps to understand the ingredients in it to appreciate the power of this drink.

Electrolytes for hydration and muscle stamina.
Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) including L-Glutamine which are important for muscle recovery.
Glucosamine which provides joint support.
Vitamins C, E and D3 as antioxidants and immune support.

What does it taste like?

Good! In spite of all the ingredients they crammed in the drink they managed to make it taste good. It’s not the most delicious drink ever, but not bad at all. It’s yellow and tastes like a healthy mountain dew, with a light citrusy flavor and just sweet enough.

My personal FitAID experience

 

Pre-workout

On a Thursday I was sleepy and sore before my noon Crossfit class. I decided to try out the FitAID before the workout to aid my performance. I started drinking it about 30 minutes before the class started (they recommend 15min before). Almost right away I felt a boost of energy, but it was the kind of energy that I felt needed to be spent. I would not drink FitAID and then have a chill day of not burning any energy, I think it would make me a bit jittery.

However, my lethargy went away and I was ready to go when class started. Throughout the workout I felt great. The WOD (workout of the day) consisted of:

Every 2 minutes for as long as possible complete:
From 0:00-2:00
15-ft. rope climbs, 2 ascents
185-lb. front squats, 2 reps
From 2:00-4:00
15-ft. rope climbs, 2 ascents
185-lb. front squats, 4 reps
Continue adding 2 reps to the front squat each interval for as long as you are able.

I was able to get to 6 rounds and finished off another round with 2 more rope climbs. I did scale the weight because 185 is not possible for me but it was heavy enough for me to struggle a bit. The point is that I do feel like fitAID aided my performance and not only that but, I felt like it helped my recovery too because I did not crash a couple of hours later like I usually do. It carried me through the rest of the day without crashing which is saying a lot for me.

I even tended to the garden when I went back home after the workout instead of going straight to the shower!

Post-workout

The following week I tried FitAID as a post-workout recovery drink.

I did the WOD:
4 rounds for time of:
Row 500 meters or Run 400m and
overhead squats, 10 reps

After I caught my breath after the WOD, I started drinking my fitAID. I supplemented with my favorite protein powder shake and it was a great combo. I believe it did help me. Although I was tired a few hours later, I did not crash and made dinner with enough energy not to feel like I was dragging.

Conclusion

FitAID works both before and after a workout. It really helped me, and I think it will help you. It did make a difference. It worked better for me to drink it before the class. Personally, I am prone to low blood pressure and sugar and they both really drop after an intense workout; I often feel lightheaded and dizzy, especially after the longer workouts because my body burns so much sugar in a short amount of time with the CrossFit workouts. FitAID really helped me with avoiding the big drop and carry on through my day without crashing.

FitAID is loaded with ingredients that your body needs and wants for a workout, even things that you didn’t know your body craved. It tastes good, and it’s not crazy expensive. I definitely recommend it!
