Australia’s Most Exciting City Break Destinations

Sydney

Australia is known for the outback and laid-back beach living. But it’s also a great city break location. If you’re travelling in Oz and fancy a break from wildlife spotting and adventure sports, take some time to discover these urban gems.

Sydney

It seems logical to start with Australia’s most iconic city, Sydney. Home to Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, this vibrant metropolis is well worth a visit. Meander through The Rocks for quirky crafts and street stalls and visit Taronga Zoo for animal encounters. Take the ferry over to Manly and enjoy fish and chips on the beach at Watson’s Bay.

Culture vultures will enjoy the Australia Museum and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. If you’re visiting in summer, head out of the city to enjoy the surf at Bondi Beach. Take the walk from Bondi to Coogee to take in some stunning scenic views. When you’ve had your fill of crowds and noise, make your way to the Blue Mountains. This stunning spot is an ideal place to recharge your batteries and enjoy some tranquility.

Melbourne is a cosmopolitan city bursting with bars, live music venues and independent boutiques. It’s no surprise that it is a firm favourite on the tourist trail. There are myriad things to do in Melbourne. Shop until you drop, explore the galleries and get involved watching some local teams. After a couple of days of city slicking, head out of town. The Great Ocean Road is one of the best road trips in the world. Navigate the winding tracks to discover all kinds of natural wonders. Keep your eyes peeled for beaches, blowholes and caves. Finish your journey at sundown with a trip to the Twelve Apostles.
